(walks towards her holding box): It's a beautiful crystal vase I saw in a shop in St John's and .... Fydo trips on a rug and falls forward. He and Calypso can only watch as the gift box slips out of his hands and lands flat on the floor. The sound of scattered crystal emminates from the fallen package FYDO (struggling back to his feet, sadly): Oh dear...... CALYPSO (smiles): Dat be alright, mon! You make Calypso feel very happy! As Peng and Deng walk back towards the ping pong table, Carla jumps up and down for joy. CARLA (happy): GGGGGOOOOOAAAAAALLLLLLLLL! YURI (shakes head): Comrade Carla, I wish you wouldn't do that every time you score a goal! Everyone is staring at us! CARLA (smiles): What say I a-say? I lova the game! Maybe the next time we have shore leave, all of us kids can organize a game! It'sa been a longa time since I playa a real game of soccer! YURI (nods): Da! Bet you be very good playerski! CARLA (smiles): But let's agree, no super powers in the game! No flying, turning invisible or passing through solid objects, OK? YURI (nods): Da! Agreed! Greta sits down on a bench with Antonie, Bernadette and Tanya. GRETA (sadly): I have no idea what to get Deborah for Mother's Day! Do any of you have any suggestions? ANTONIE (smiles): We we! I bought my mom a new hairbrush! She styles her own fur, y'know! BERNADETTE (nods): My brothers and Carla all pooled our money together and bought our mom a new evening gown. We let dad pick it out for us! TANYA (smiles): Every year when Yuri and I ask our mom what she wants, she says,"Nyet, I am in need of nothing", but we get her a gift anyway. GRETA (sadly): But this is the first year I have Deborah for a mom, I want my gift to be extra special! ANTONIE (thinking): Hmmmmmm. We will help you find the perfect gift! (turns to Bernadette and Tanya): Won't we? TANYA (stands up): DA! Comrade Greta! You can count on me! BERNADETTE (stands up): Thatsa right! I will help too! ANTONIE (stands up): I have an idea! Let's go ask the Captain! She so wise, I'll bet she has the answer! GRETA (stands up): That's right! Captain Persia knows everything! In a matter of minutes, Greta, Tanya, Antonie and Bernadette are standing in front of Persia's closed office door. All four seem a little hestant to enter. GRETA (nervous): Maybe she's not in. BERNADETTE (shaking): Maybe we should come back at another time! TANYA (sternly): Nonsense! We go in now! ANTONIE (shakes head): Suc-ray-blue! As the four children continue to talk among themselves, they become suddenly frightened when the door is opened and Alexander steps out. ALEXANDER (smiles): Hello, children! I'm finished with the Captain, you may all come in now! GRETA (shallows hard): Thank you, Commander Alexander! ALEXANDER (big grin): My pleasure! Greta, Tanya, Antonie and Bernadette slowly walk into the office to find Persia behind her desk, looking at a monitor at taking note. PERSIA (writing): Please children, come in and have a seat! I'll be right with you! The four timid Rover children each sit down and look all around the office at the various paintings, wall hangings and small objects resting on the shelf behind where Persia is sitting. Persia puts her pen down and looks up at the children. PERSIA (happy): And what can I do for you fine youngsters today? GRETA (swallows hard): Well....Captain......ma'am........it's.... PERSIA (warm smile): Greta, don't be frightened of me. I'm just another Space Rover, I won't bite! This makes the other kids laugh. Greta looks up at the Captain with her sad eyes. GRETA (sadly): Captain, I don't know what to get my mommy for Mother's Day! Do you have any ideas? PERSIA (sighs): My dear Greta, you don't know how fortunate you are to have a mother. I never knew my mom. Shortly after I was born, all of my brothers and sisters and I were all tossed into a canvass sack and thrown into a river. (holds back tears): I never had a chance to know my mother... GRETA (sadly): Captain, I'm so sorry.... PERSIA (smiles): It's alright, Greta. (reaches for a tissue) There's a lot of things I would've like to say to my mother, if I'd had the chance. GRETA (sadly): I know what you mean, Captain. I wish there was a way I could tell my mom how much I love her, and how special she makes me feel. I know Deborah can never take the place of my first mommy, but I love her all the same! I wish I could find her a very special gift that would show her how much I appreciate all she does for me, like reading me bedtime stories, helping me with my schoolwork and even playing with me when she has the chance. She's a very wonderful person, I only wish she knew how much I care for her... PERSIA (warm smile, points to the open door): I think she knows now, Greta! The four turn around and only now see someone standing in the doorway. GRETA (excited): MOMMY!!! Greta jumps off her chair and into Deborah's waiting arms. DEBORAH (crying): I heard everything you said, honey, and I love you very, very much! Greta hugs her mother as the other children look on. GRETA (confused): But what about your Mother's Day present? DEBORAH (warm smile): My dear, just knowing how much you love me is better than any gift you could ever buy in a store! You've already made this the happiest Mother's Day in my life! Deborah and Greta share another warm embrace, even Persia much reach for more tissues as she sees this truly touching moment. DEBORAH (smiles): I just had a wonderful idea! I've just baked some cookies in our quarters, how about you and your friends come over and help us eat them! BERNADETTE (stands up): I like-a that idea! ANTONIE (stand up): We we! Viva la cookies! TANYA (stands up): Da! Dat sounds like funski! DEBORAH (still holding Greta): Well, Greta, what do you say? GRETA (still crying): I say you're the best mommy in the universe! Persia reaches for more tissues as Deborah leads the other children out of her office. Minutes later, Grunt runs into the office holding a large brown box in his hands which he promptly sets on her desk. PERSIA (smiles widely): A present for me? Oh, Grunt, you shouldn't have! She opens the top of the box to reveal a small, sapling tree inside. GRUNT (big grin): GRRRRRRRRRRRRR GROWL! GRRRRRRRRRRRR! PERSIA (giggles): But Grunt, my dear, it's not Arbor Day. The next holiday coming up is Mother's Day! GRUNT (shakes head, sadly): GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR GROWL............. PERSIA (smiles): That's alright, Grunt! I'll put this wonderful tree in my office, thank you! GRUNT (concerned): GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR GROWL GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR? PERSIA (walks out from behind desk): Yes, Grunt, I really do like it! GRUNT (questioning): GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR GROWL GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR? PERSIA (smiles): How about a big kiss? Grunt, you don't have to ask my permission to do that! GRUNT (big grin): GROWL? PERSIA (smiles): I mean it, Commander! Grunt and Persia exchange a long, passionate kiss. GRUNT (smiles): GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR GROWL GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR! PERSIA (smiles): You always say the nicest things to me! They kiss again. --------------------------------------------------------------------
